David Haskell Hackworth (1930-2005) was a distinguished U.S. military veteran with over 90 honors, including 10 Silver Stars and eight Purple Hearts.
Beginning his career in 1946, he served in Italy, Korea and founded the Tiger Force during the Vietnam War.
Retiring as a colonel in 1971, he later became a Newsweek journalist and editor, championing soldiers’ rights and critiquing U.S. foreign policy.
He passed away from cancer and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
