Biography of Ferruccio Lamborghini

Ferruccio Lamborghini, the creator of the automobile business that bears his name and is famed for its beautiful, high-performance automobiles, is born in Italy on April 28, 1916.

Lamborghini started a tractor company near Bologna, Italy, after WWII, using repurposed surplus military vehicles.

He became wealthy after branching out into other businesses, such as producing air-conditioning and heating equipment.

Lamborghini’s success in the automobile industry allowed him to buy a number of high-end sports vehicles, including a Ferrari, that was regarded one of the best at that time.

Lamborghini decided to create his own rival sports car firm after having technical problems with his Ferrari. He even had to hire a former top Ferrari engineer for this.

Automobili Lamborghini was founded in 1963 in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, and presented its first automobile, the Lamborghini 350 GTV, a two-seater coupe powered by a V12 engine, the same year.

The company’s emblem included a bull, which was a nod to Ferruccio Lamborghini’s zodiac sign of Taurus the bull.

Several Lamborghini models were named after bulls or bullfighting, including the Miura (named after Don Eduardo Miura, a fighting bull breeder), a mid-engine sports car that gained Lamborghini an international following and a reputation for prestige and cutting-edge design when it was released in the mid-1960s.

Lamborghini’s tractor business had troubles in the early 1970s, so he sold his stake in the sports car company and retreated to his vineyard. Automobili Lamborghini changed hands numerous times until being bought by Volkswagen in the late 1990s.

The company continues to produce high-performance vehicles such as the Murcielago (which can reach speeds of over 200 mph) and the Gallardo. At the age of 76, Ferruccio Lamborghini died of a heart attack on February 20, 1993.

Facts about Ferruccio Lamborghini

  • Ferruccio Lamborghini did not begin his career as a premium sports vehicle designer. He began his career by building tractors.
  • Because the business founder was born under the astrological sign Taurus, which is represented by a bull, Lamborghinis are named after bulls.
  • After realizing that his Ferrari clutch was a tractor clutch, Ferruccio Lamborghini was motivated to build automobiles. When he contacted Ferrari for a replacement, the firm informed him that he didn’t know anything about automobiles because he was a tractor maker. So Ferruccio set out to disprove them. Ferruccio allegedly spit on the floor before storming out of Ferrari, according to some sources.
