Fred Hampton, a prominent civil rights leader, was born on August 30, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois.

A dynamic advocate for racial justice, Hampton led the NAACP’s Youth Council in Maywood, excelling in both academics and athletics during high school.

In 1968, he joined and soon led the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party (BPP), where he utilized his experience from the NAACP.
