Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astronomer who has made science accessible to many through his numerous books, radio and TV appearances.
His interest in astronomy was sparked at the young age of nine when he visited the Hayden Planetarium.
Tyson pursued this passion and received degrees from Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin and Columbia University.
He contributed to the University of Texas’s StarDate magazine and later compiled these pieces into his books.
As the Hayden Planetarium’s director, he presided over a complete overhaul of the facility, notably reclassifying Pluto. Tyson’s influence extends to TV and radio, where he hosted series like Origins, NOVA scienceNOW and StarTalk.
Despite facing accusations of sexual misconduct in 2018, investigations were completed in 2019 and Tyson resumed his work, including his role as the Hayden Planetarium’s director.
