Anne Frank, born Annelies Marie Frank on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, is widely known for her deeply touching diary entries written during her family’s two-year hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam.
Forced into hiding when her sister Margot was threatened with deportation, Anne and her family took refuge in the secret annex of Otto Frank’s office.
Aided by non-Jewish friends, the Frank family and four other Jews lived concealed, with Anne diligently documenting their lives, her adolescent struggles and future dreams.
After their capture Anne’s diary was discovered and later published as “Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl”.
Despite its depiction of immense adversity it conveys Anne’s unwavering belief in the inherent goodness of people.
The diary, now translated into over 65 languages, remains the most widely read Holocaust account, immortalizing Anne as one of the best-known victims.
