Frances Hodgson Burnett was a famous playwright and author best known for her novel “Little Lord Fauntleroy.”
After facing financial struggles following her father’s death Frances began her writing career eventually finding success and regularly publishing in multiple magazines.
She married Dr. Swan Moses Burnett in 1873 although they later divorced in 1898.
Over her career she wrote several novels plays and a memoir all highlighting her talent for combining realistic detail with romantic elements.
Notably “Little Lord Fauntleroy” was a significant success appealing to mothers and selling over half a million copies.
She also won a lawsuit over its dramatic rights contributing to British copyright law. Other popular works include “The Secret Garden” and “A Little Princess.”
Frances spent her later years in England and built a house in New York where she passed away in 1924.
Her legacy lives on with her son Vivian writing a biography of her in 1927.
