Alicia Garza born on January 4, 1981 in Los Angeles, California graduated in anthropology and sociology from the University of California San Diego in 2002.
After graduation she worked in various social justice positions including serving as executive director for People Organized to Win Employment Rights (POWER) and board chair for Right to the City Alliance (RTTC) which fights gentrification and police brutality.
In 2013 Garza co-founded the Black Lives Matter movement and later joined the National Domestic Workers Alliance.
