Amy Carmichael was a famous Irish Christian missionary who established an orphanage and a mission in India.

After her father died she moved in with the Wilson family in England and began using the name Wilson-Carmichael.

Carmichael felt called to be a missionary and after being turned away from the China Inland Mission due to health reasons went to Japan in 1893 with the Church Missionary Society.
