Andrew Bonar Law, born in Canada in 1858, served as the prime minister of Great Britain from October 1922 to May 1923, making him the first prime minister from a British overseas possession.
Raised by wealthy Scottish cousins from age 12, he became a partner in a Glasgow iron merchants firm before entering politics.
Elected to the House of Commons as a Conservative in 1900, he became leader of the Conservative Party in 1911, succeeding Arthur James Balfour.
Law focused primarily on tariff issues and Irish Home Rule, which he vehemently opposed.
During World War I, he served in key roles such as secretary for the colonies, leader of the House of Commons and chancellor of the Exchequer.
However, ill health forced him to step down in 1921. Law briefly returned to power in 1922 amidst growing dissatisfaction within the Conservative Party.
Despite significant challenges, his leadership was affirmed by voters.
He resigned in 1923 due to health issues and was succeeded by Stanley Baldwin.

Famous Andrew Bonar Quotes
One of the gravest perils which besets the ministry is a restless scattering of energies over an amazing multiplicity of interests which leaves no margin of time and of strength for receptive and absorbing communion with God. ~ Andrew Bonar.
Children’s conscientiousness in lessons, and fairness in playing games, and command of temper, may yield as true a proof of sanctification begun, as do the integrity of the adult, and his firm adherence to principle in matter of merchandise. ~ Andrew Bonar.
We have not been men of prayer. The spirit of prayer has slumbered among us. The closet has been too little frequented and delighted in. We have allowed business, study or active labor to interfere with our closet-hours. And the feverish atmosphere in which both the church and the nation are enveloped has found its way into our prayer closets… ~ Andrew Bonar.
Revivals begin with God’s own people; the Holy Spirit touches their heart anew, and gives them new fervor and compassion, and zeal, new light and life, and when He has thus come to you, He next goes forth to the valley of dry bones… Oh, what responsibility this lays on the Church of God! If you grieve Him away from yourselves, or hinder His visit, then the poor perishing world suffers sorely! ~ Andrew Bonar.
Oh brother, pray; in spite of Satan, pray; spend hours in prayer; rather neglect friends than not pray; rather fast, and lose breakfast, dinner, tea, and supper – and sleep too – than not pray. And we must not talk about prayer, we must pray in right earnest. The Lord is near. He comes softly while the virgins slumber. ~ Andrew Bonar.
We must continue in prayer if we are to get an outpouring of the Spirit. Christ says there are some things we shall not get, unless we pray and fast, yes, “prayer and fasting.” We must control the flesh and abstain from whatever hinders direct fellowship with God. ~ Andrew Bonar.
There is a practical error very common among God’s people. All of them profess to believe that the Holy Spirit may convert souls at any age, and that conversion cannot take place too soon; while yet they do not look for the conversion of children with the same lively faith that they manifest in asking and expecting the Holy Spirit to change those who are of riper years. ~ Andrew Bonar.
