Anton LaVey born as Howard Stanton Levey in 1930 started the ‘Church of Satan‘ in 1966 in San Francisco.
His early life is unclear but he worked various jobs including as a psychic and organist and became known for his interest in the occult.
LaVey wrote “The Satanic Bible” in 1969 outlining a form of Satanism that promoted self-indulgence without harming others rather than evil worship.
His Satanism was more about rejecting hypocrisy than nihilism. Although his Church of Satan was small and faced internal issues he gained fame through his writings.
However later investigations revealed that he made up some stories about his life like alleged affairs with famous actresses.
