Genghis Khan, originally named Temujin meaning “finest steel”, was born in 1162 and reigned as the Supreme Khan of the Mongols from 1206 to 1227.
He founded the vast Mongol Empire after enduring a challenging early life on Mongolia’s cold plains.
After his father, the tribe’s khan, was poisoned by Tartars, a young Temujin was betrayed and ousted from his tribe.
