Johannes Kepler, born on December 27, 1571, in Weil der Stadt, was a notable figure in the Holy Roman Empire of German Nationality.
Despite his impoverished early life and health issues, Kepler’s brilliance earned him a scholarship to the University of Tübingen. Introduced to Copernican ideas, he became its avid defender, penning the “Mysterium Cosmographicum” in 1596.
Kepler faced religious alienation from both Lutherans, due to his refusal to sign the Formula of Concord and Catholics.
Amidst the turbulence of the Thirty Years War, he collaborated with Tycho Brahe in Prague and succeeded him as the Imperial Mathematician.
He formulated the first two laws of planetary motion and introduced the scientific method.
Despite personal tragedies and forced relocations, Kepler’s work continued, culminating in the “Epitome Astronomiae” and the “Rudolphine Tables.”
He passed away in 1630, with his grave soon lost to war.
Johannes Kepler is well known for his laws of planetary motion.
