John Gotti, also known as Teflon Don and Dapper Don, was an iconic American crime boss active in the 1980s and ’90s.
Born in 1940 in South Bronx, he was the fifth of 13 children to Italian immigrant parents. Gotti led a local Brooklyn gang in his teens and got involved with the Gambino crime family.
Arrested multiple times, Gotti’s criminal activities ranged from truck hijacking to manslaughter.
Despite facing numerous charges, many didn’t stick, earning him the nickname “Teflon Don.”
However, in 1992, he was convicted on 13 counts, including murder and racketeering, leading to a life sentence. Gotti died in 2002 in a federal prison from throat cancer.
