Marcus Luttrell a Texas native trained for the SEALs with his twin brother Morgan starting at age 14.
They were coached by former Army soldier Billy Shelton. Marcus loved outdoor activities and martial arts as a kid.
His strong will is reflected in the Navy SEAL Creed which emphasizes never quitting and being strong for one’s team and mission.
Luttrell joined the Navy in 1999 and became a team medic after SEAL training.
In 2005 Luttrell survived Operation Red Wing in Afghanistan where he lost his team but was helped by an Afghan tribe.
Post-recovery he completed another tour before medically retiring. He then wrote “Lone Survivor” sharing his story and later another book “Service.”
He married Melanie in 2010 and they have two children Axe and Addie. He founded the Lone Survivor Foundation and is involved with The Boot Campaign.
His story was also made into a film “Lone Survivor” in 2014.
