Walker Evans was an influential American photographer recognized for his impact on 20th-century photography.
Diverging from the artistic aesthetic of his time, Evans captured the essence of everyday American life in the early-mid 20th century, focusing on vernacular architecture, advertisements, car culture and home interiors.
Walker Evans is very famous for his black-and-white images that documented the impact of the Great Depression.
Despite an inconsistent academic record, Evans’s passion for photography was ignited in the late 1920s, particularly after exposure to French photographer Eugène Atget’s candid imagery.
