Barry Lamar Bonds, born on July 24, 1964, in Riverside, California, was an iconic American baseball player, known for setting major league records for both career (762) and single-season home runs (73 in 2001).
Born into a baseball legacy, his father was Bobby Bonds, an outfielder for the San Francisco Giants and his godfather, the renowned Willie Mays.
Initially drafted by the Giants out of high school, Bonds chose to play for Arizona State University before joining the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986.
