Randy Pausch (born Randolph Frederick Pausch) was a computer science, human–computer interaction, and design professor at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In September 2006, Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was given a terminal diagnosis in August 2007: “3 to 6 months of good health left.”

On September 18, 2007, he presented an optimistic speech at Carnegie Mellon titled “The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” which became a famous YouTube video and led to further media appearances.

On the same subject, he co-authored The Last Lecture, which became a New York Times best-seller.

Pausch died of pancreatic cancer complications on July 25, 2008, at the age of 47.
