His parents, Bernard and Ellen Casey, originally from Ireland, named him Bernard after his father.
Raised in a farming family, Barney, as he was known, led a simple life.
His path of spiritual service spanned 53 years as a priest, marked by his dedication as a humble porter and sacristan in his monastery.
In 1924, he returned to Detroit and began serving as the doorkeeper at St. Bonaventure Monastery, a role where he radiated his deep compassion and profound holiness.
