Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band that was formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964.

The band achieved worldwide success in the 1970s and early 1980s with a string of hit songs including “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird”.

The band was formed by friends Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocals, guitar and harmonica), Gary Rossington (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar) and Allen Collins (drums).

The band took its name from a Southern slang term for the American South.

The band’s earliest sound was rooted in the Southern rock and blues-based music of the 1960s, but Lynyrd Skynyrd quickly developed a unique style that mixed elements from several genres.

In 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd released their second album “Street Survivors”, which featured the songs “Sweet Home Alabama” and “That Smell”.
