Mokgadi Caster Semenya, born January 7, 1991, in Ga-Masehlong village, Limpopo, South Africa, is a renowned middle-distance runner.
Growing up in Fairlie, Limpopo province, Semenya attended Nthema Secondary School and later the University of North.
Being an intersex woman, her career has been marked with both remarkable victories and controversy.
She’s a three-time World Championships winner (2009, 2011, 2017) and a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 800 meters (2012, 2016).
In 2009, post her World Championship victory, she underwent sex testing, yet was cleared to compete the following year.
