Haruki Murakami, born in 1949, is a renowned Japanese writer and American literary translator known for his light, relaxed writing style influenced by American authors.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, to parents who taught Japanese literature, Murakami was exposed to a broad range of books from an early age.
However, his inclination lay in Western literature. His passion for literature led him to study Drama at Waseda University, Tokyo, where he met his future wife, Yoko. Together, they opened a cafe and jazz bar called Peter Cat.
Murakami’s life took a decisive turn in 1978 when he began writing novels inspired by a baseball game.
His debut novel, “Hear the Wind Sing”, won him accolades, encouraging him to pursue writing full-time.

His quotes particularly about life, love and motivation, resonate very well with readers worldwide.
